Agroforestry Sweden
Agroforestry Sweden is a non-profit association working to develop and spread knowledge about agroforestry in Sweden, from the small forest garden to plantations on arable land, in pastures or the forests. The association also works with local, national and international networking.
Description
By working to promote inclusion of trees in agricultural systems, soil health can be promoted in multiple ways. It promotes soil biodiversity (both micro- and macro- level), enhances soil organic carbon and increase the water holding capacity of the soil. In addition, the trees offer shelter and habitats for above-ground biodiversity, and can provide farmers with an additional income. Within the network of Agroforestry Sweden farmers, gardeners and foresters experiment and work to develop agroforestry systems adapted to Swedish conditions. One of the example farms is Lundens gård.
