Karbon Agro

Karbon Agro is a Norwegian take on the international concept Conservation Agriculture. Starting as a project lead by the Norwegian agricultural extension service NLR, a group of experienced farmers have been collected, who have applied conservation agriculture practices.

Description

The group of farmers are primarily based in Østfold region in Norway, but has gradually spread also to farmers in the whole south-east part of the country (the main crop producing region in Norway). The group, together with the NLR advisors, spreads knowledge about practices such as no-till, cover crops and diversification of crop rotations. Using catch crops in the crop rotations is one way that has proven to be a valuable tool for the Karbon Agro farmers to enhance soil health, by fixating nitrogen and carbon. The group hopes to continue to explore and learn in future, preferably together with researchers in different on-farm trials, and to spread the practices more broadly in the country.
