SUPPORTING CAPACITY BUILDING IN SOIL MONITORING IN EUROPE Webinar

The PREPSOIL project invites you to participate in four online knowledge-sharing sessions focused on strengthening capacity for soil health monitoring in the European Union. These events are part of PREPSOIL’s contribution to the implementation of the EU Soil Strategy for 2030, the proposed Soil Monitoring Law (SML), and the EU Soil Mission.

The sessions aim to promote knowledge exchange (from lessons learned to best practices, success case studies, protocol examples, etc.) for soil health monitoring based on topics of interest pre-identified by PREPSOIL in the context of the implementation of the Soil Monitoring Law and the EU Mission Soil. Contents will be performed in collaboration with other Mission Soil projects and Soil Monitoring initiatives.

These are pilot sessions (webinar/workshop format) intended to help refine priority content and approaches relevant to training needs in soil monitoring. Each session will include a brief interactive final section to gather feedback from participants.

Who should attend?

These events target professionals and institutions involved in soil monitoring and governance, especially those connected to the implementation of the SML:

  • National and regional policy makers
  • Implementation officers and technical experts
  • Researchers and monitoring professionals
  • EU institutions and Soil Mission partners
  • Civil society and stakeholder networks

Why attend?

  • Gain access to validated methodologies and indicator systems
  • Understand the legal and technical implications of the new EU directive
  • Learn how to design monitoring frameworks and interpret soil data
  • Engage in shaping future European capacity-building strategies

Why its relevant?

These sessions are directly aligned with:

  • The EU Soil Strategy for 2030, which targets healthy soils by 2050
  • The Soil Monitoring Law, which introduces common EU descriptors, mandates soil districts, and requires national monitoring systems
  • The EU Soil Mission, which supports digital platforms, Living Labs, and policy-relevant innovation in soil governance

PREPSOIL contributes by:

  • Mapping training needs across Europe
  • Developing content on soil indicators, monitoring protocols, and digital technologies
  • Promoting a shared vision of soil as a public good and environmental priority
