Practice makes Perfect: PREPSOIL's “Advancing Soil Sustainability" series captures hands-on, heathy soil habits

The first in a series of 80 media products to be produced as part of the PREPSOIL “Advancing Soil Sustainability” series have been published on the PREPSOIL Youtube channel.  The videos were produced locally by PREPSOIL-partners throughout Europe and are aimed at inspiring best practices in soil health through the testimony of successful Soil Advocates from their Communities of Practice (CoPs).  The videos have been recorded in local language with subtitles to other languages available on Youtube.

Find motivation from the Urban Gardens os Badajoz in Spain, where local Soil Advocate Fernando Gonçalves recounts how just one neighborhood-association initiative grew to encompass over 50 urban gardens promoting soil health and benefiting the entire city.

Meanwhile, let Håkan Wahlstedt from Hidinge gård in Sweden, explain how crop rotation and other best practices are being adopted on his farm as part of “Odling i balans”, or "Farming in Balance" initiative, a network which seeks to close the gap between research and practice by bringing new scientific ideas into the daily practice of farmers.

Finally, Maïna Joner from Skøyenåsen hagelag in Oppsal in Oslo, Norway, describes her local gardening initiative, where neighbours come together to produce their own vegetables, herbs and fruit.

These stories are just a few  of the media outputs to come in the "Advancing Soil Sustainability" series.
Over time the 80 media outputs will provide a broad overview of soil practices and cultivation methods from all over Europe.
The goal of the series is to share knowledge on soil and soil health, inspiring everyone from farmers to lawmakers to take action in protecting soil health.

Just a part of many efforts

The Advancing Soil Sustainability series is just one of PREPSOIL’s efforts to increase soil literacy across platforms and target groups.
PREPSOIL is an EU-funded project which supports the deployment of the “A Soil Deal for Europe” mission to reduce soil degradation, while increasing soil awareness and soil literacy in all land-use cases throughout Europe.
The Mission “A Soil Deal for Europe” states that the lack of knowledge and awareness of the cruciality of long-term soil health among different stakeholders - land managers, industries, consumers and society at large - is a major driver of soil degradation, affecting its capacity to provide ecosystem services.
PREPSOIL aids the Mission by providing tools and spaces to facilitate knowledge exchange, capacity building and cross-regional connection such as its Communities of Practice (CoPs) and the Multilingual Soil Knowledge-Hub.   You can read more about the PREPSOIL project and its initiatives here.
