Soil Network Europe continues the exploitation of PREPSOIL results
26, May, 2025

As PREPSOIL approaches its conclusion in June 2025, a new initiative is emerging to ensure that its progress and results continue to be disseminated and exploited. Soil Network Europe has been launched as a dynamic follow-up to ended Soil Mission projects such as EJP Soil and soon also PREPSOIL. The network brings together researchers, farmers, businesses, NGOs, and policymakers to advance soil health and sustainability across Europe.
PREPSOIL has played a pivotal role in preparing the ground for a more coordinated European approach to soil stewardship. Now, with 60 to 70 percent of EU soils classified as unhealthy, the urgency to act has never been greater. Soil Network Europe will serve as a collaborative platform to keep soil health high on the political agenda and to carry forward the deployment of the Mission Soil across the European regions.
From Preparation to Action
Coordinated by the Danish Centre for Food and Agriculture (DCA) at Aarhus University, Soil Network Europe is designed to expand and deepen the network of stakeholders mobilised through PREPSOIL. It will act as a bridge from research to practice and policy, fostering collaboration and accelerating sustainable solutions for soil management.
“PREPSOIL has rolled out tools and spaces for interaction, knowledge-sharing and co-learning. With Soil Network Europe, we’re building on that foundation to ensure that knowledge is not only preserved but actively used in agricultural practices as well as in policy,” says Jesper Emborg, Head of Communications at DCA and former communications lead in EJP SOIL.
A Hub for Europe’s Soil Community
By creating a central space for exchanging knowledge and fostering innovation, Soil Network Europe supports coordinated responses to soil degradation. It connects ongoing research with real-world agricultural practices and policy development, contributing to the EU’s broader environmental and climate goals.
“Only through collaboration and open exchange can we develop solutions that are practical, scalable, and rooted in both science and local realities,” adds Jesper Emborg.
Join the Movement
Soil Network Europe welcomes participation from a wide range of actors, including agricultural advisors, researchers, NGOs, policymakers, soil professionals, and farmers. Members will join an international, cross-sectoral community dedicated to one of Europe’s most vital natural resources.
