Advancing soil health monitoring and data collection across diverse landscapes in Europe

Pierre Renault (INRAE) explains how existing research in satellite-based Earth Observation (EO) can be utilized in the context of soil health monitoring. While these research findings can serve as a benchmark for developing methodologies and models to assess soil health indicators, existing results and data available for monitoring soil health are specifically related to agricultural settings. While these available results can be used to interpolate or estimate soil health conditions within a wider range of land uses, care needs to be taken when extrapolating or extending these results to predict soil health in other land uses, as the conditions and factors influencing soil health may differ significantly. The video interview was conducted during the PREPSOIL Kick-Off meeting held in September in Aarhus which gave the project the first opportunity to meet on a face-to face basis.
